Wow, that’s a long title…so what does this tool do anyway?!
As my (Elise) favorite trimming tool at Garage Clay in Bozeman, MT, this trimmer does [almost] everything I need when trimming a variety of shapes. The large, steel surface area allows for a lot of control + steadiness when taking off large or small amounts of clay. I’m able to hold the oiled wooden handle nicely in my hand and get a consistent trim every time.
The straight triangle edge is useful for creating a straight finish on a vase or a perfect rounded edge on the foot of a bowl. For the center of a pot, I use a small triangle corner of the tool to create a divot pull across the bottom, followed by flipping the tool so the flat edge is against the clay to smooth it out.
The PT345 has withstood the test of time + [slight] abuse of gritty Speckled Buff clay + produces a smooth finish on any porcelain piece. For maintenance, I try to keep the handle + blade oiled with our Orange Oil and avoid soaking it in water for too long.
This tool is a 10/10 for all things trimming and is in stock currently in our retail space or online store!
