Decals – How-to!

We have SO many lovely decals in stock. With a wide range of colors, animals, bikes, and so much more, these third-firing images are easy to add with a few simple steps.

You’ll need: Scissors, towel, bowl of warm water, squeegee/Mudtool Rib, Lint free cloth, a kiln + a beautiful pottery piece to use.

Step 1: Prep your work area + wash your ceramics with warm water.

Step 2: Carefully cut around your decal in the desired shape.

Step 3: Place the decal in warm water and wait at lease 30 seconds. Remove the decal and let it sit until the decal slides easily from the backing paper with little pressure.

Step 4: Slide the decal off the backing paper onto your ceramic piece. Do not flip the decal over. It’s very important that the decal remains face-up.

Step 5: Carefully hold your decal in place while you use your Mudtool Rib to push out any water or air bubbles trapped under the decal. Start from the center of the decal and push out toward the edge. Continue on all edges of the decal as you carefully remove all air + water under the decal.

Step 6: Carefully dry your decorated ceramic piece with a soft, lint-free cloth [even an old pillowcase works] working from the center of the decal, gently pushing towards the edge of the decal. Allow the decal to dry overnight and fire at Cone 016 to 018. As always, PLEASE reach out to us if you experience any complications with the decals or have any questions. We are always so happy to help!
